Dreamland for Cats
Freddy has always had a dream – to create a large, fully equipped sanctuary on the island for abandoned cats and their kittens.
Well, the good news is that on 2 June 2020, that dream came true with the purchase of Dreamland for Cats – thanks to the donations of Freddy fans around the world and the contribution of a private benefactor.
Dreamland for Cats is a property of 9000 square metres, situated down a remote track in Tegoyo, a few kilometres west of Tias. The property already has buildings and beautiful gardens. A wall has just been completed to keep the cats safely within Dreamland and to protect designated cat areas from wandering dogs.
In fact, the whole of Dreamland for Cats is currently being modified to cater for the needs of the cats. Renovation work is also underway on the buildings and internal walking areas.
Freddy has already created 4 isolation rooms for sick cats and 2 overnight rooms where cats can rest after medical procedures. Plans have been drawn up to kit out one of the buildings for use as a medical room where our visiting vets can examine and treat cats.
A large internal feeding and relaxing area for the cats is kept scrupulously clean by our dedicated team of volunteers. We are also building outside rooms, as well as structured play and sleeping areas for the cats.
There’s also a Kitten Room where vulnerable kittens can grow and gradually get accustomed to the big world!
The Winter Garden is essentially a conservatory – a pleasant and comfortable lodging for the cats, as well as a good meeting place for visitors to sit and talk about their favourite subject. Further additions to the internal cat living quarters are also underway.
Another proposed Dreamland project is a Cat Café where visitors can meet and talk with Freddy, our volunteers and other visiting cat friends – before or after their tour of Dreamland.
We also have a lovely Cat Hotel, where people can book their pets in when they have to go on holiday.
Costs are €1,99 a day.
There is a small living area for Freddy and excellent self-contained accommodation (a 2-bedroom apartment with kitchen) for people wanting to stay at Dreamland for Cats overnight, or longer.
Prices for staying at Dreamland for Cats will be:
- €19 per room per night with breakfast (airport shuttle there and back included)
- €9 per room per night without breakfast (airport shuttle there and back included)
Initially, if you want to stay at Dreamland for Cats, you must phone in and check availability. It’s worth pointing out that you will be expected to work for a minimum of 2 hours each day, looking after the cats’ welfare.

Your chance to make a difference
So Dreamland for Cats is a major step forward the care and well-being of abandoned cats and kittens in Lanzarote. The island has never seen anything like it – and it can only get better!
But as you can see from our programme of works, we need donations to make it all happen. You can ‘Be Part of It’ and donate, today.
Whatever amount you donate, we can guarantee it will be well spent on the welfare of our wonderful, charming, funny, fascinating furry friends at Dreamland for Cats.
Caring for the cats
The cats are fed and checked on in the morning and evening by Freddy and the volunteers. During the day, the volunteers feed and pamper the cats, as well as clean the buildings, grounds and materials used by the cats.
There are currently over 100 abandoned or sick cats and their kittens living at Dreamland. They have all been named and documented with a photograph.
The charity ensures all cats in their care, are neutered, wormed and receive appropriate medical treatment.
